Foresight contributed to the Local Government Pension Scheme's (LGPS) Levelling Up Report, highlighting key drivers and new opportunities for investment within clean energy across the UK.

The LGPS whitepaper identifies core areas where the LGPS is focusing existing and future investment in line with the Government's "levelling up" agenda. Touching on clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, social infrastructure, housing, private debt, infrastructure debt, natural capital, private equity and social regeneration, it outlines its long term plans for continued capitalisation of strategic projects which benefit both the environment and communities we live in.

Renewable Energy in the UK

 

A transformational change is underway in global energy markets. Driven by evolving patterns of both energy production and usage it reflects the rapid growth of clean energy generation over the past 15 years. This is resulting in a wave of high-quality infrastructure investment opportunities which Foresight classifies into three areas, Clean Energy Generation, Clean Energy Enabling Infrastructure and Transmission and Distribution.

 

Focusing on these key clean energy technology sub-sectors, the industry must consider the scale of investment required to drive impact. Sectors such as offshore wind, nuclear, carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS), solar, energy storage, hydrogen and electric vehicles and infrastructure, will likely continue to see the development of large scale, centralised infrastructure assets.
