Our investments play an important role in reducing the world’s carbon emissions, improving social infrastructure for businesses and communities, and supporting the long-term growth of ambitious companies. Together, we are united by a shared commitment to build a sustainable future and grow thriving economies.

Climate Change and Net Zero
We are taking action to demonstrate our commitment to becoming a net zero business.
Our business operations (Scope 1, 2 and 3, minus our financed emissions) are carbon neutral thanks to offsetting our emissions through ClimateCare. However, this is just the start of our journey to get Foresight Group to net zero. Our biggest challenge is to understand the detail of our financed emissions through the Foresight managed funds. Many of our funds are already taking steps to better understand their emissions and will be reporting accordingly. We will support our funds to reach net zero and to understand the journey we must all take to get there.
The Sustainable Development Goals
The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seek to mobilise the international community to bring about an end to poverty and protect the planet.
Our Approach
The SDGs are a key driver of Foresight's investment and corporate activities. We believe that applying an SDG ‘lens’ in addition to our existing ESG and sustainability framework makes our investment activities more outcome oriented and supports our investors in achieving their objectives. We've identified areas where we feel we can make the most impact through out activities.
The Eden Project Partnership
We partner with the Eden Project, highlighting the role businesses have to play in combatting the nature and climate crisis.
Discover morePeople and Wellbeing
The past two years have thrown many people into new work habits and social routines. We hope that engaging with our people openly about mental health and wellbeing can help us overcome stigma and create a healthier working environment. From outlining what wellbeing actually means to those in the company, to understanding ways of supporting others through challenging times, it allows us to be better equipped as we go forward.
Nature and Biodiversity
According to the World Economic Forum, over half of the world's GDP - $44 trillion of economic value generation, is at moderate or severe risk due to nature depletion and a fifth of nature's ecosystems are on the verge of collapse. In order to mitigate against these risks, the State of Finance for Nature report, identified a total investment in nature of $8.1 trillion is required between now and 2050 to successfully tackle the interlinked climate, biodiversity and land degradation crises.
Foresight's Nature Recovery Blueprint was published in partnership with the Eden Project with the aim to guide land managers, developers, asset managers and operators to implement nature positive management practices.

We are committed to activities that have a positive impact at a local level and look to engage with social initiatives in our own communities.
The impact our infrastructure assets and portfolio companies have on both their local communities and society more broadly is a key consideration for each of our investment teams, with the shared goal of achieving positive social outcomes. Our social analysis is structured around five areas:
- Inclusion and Diversity
- Decent employment and job creation
- Social impact of products and services
- Social performance improvements implemented
- Charitable practices and community engagement
Circular Economy
The prevalent approach to our economy has been a linear process until recently. We take natural resources, process them, consume them and then dispose of them. The circular economy links this process together, eliminating waste – ensuring that all components of a product or service can be reused in some format again – therefore becoming circular.
As a business, we monitor the products, services, resources, and utilities that we use so that we can better understand our internal behaviours and develop strategies to reduce our consumption and choose more sustainable alternatives. This is part of a continual process of self-improvement.
As we develop our sustainability strategies across our portfolios we are also investigating opportunities to ensure waste products from our assets can be better utilised elsewhere rather than becoming waste products. This will involve looking at the end of life of our assets and the maintenance regimes that may require us to replace components that no longer meet the standard required.
We are committed to working with our supply chains to ensure that we support products and services that underpin the circular economy.
Foresight’s wildflower seed collection day with the Eden Project
As part of Foresight’s sustainability partnership with the Eden Project1, the National Wildflower Centre2 carried out wildflower seed collections at two of our forestry assets in Scotland; Upper Barr and Fordie.
The aim of the sessions is to create new wildflower habitats that support wildlife and biodiversity, whilst connecting members of the local community to the natural world.
Attendees were taught about the importance of local provenance wildflower seeds. They were shown how and when to harvest the seeds, where they are cleaned and stored at the NWC, and how they will be used to support future nature recovery projects on Foresight’s assets.

Nature Recovery Ambition Statement Update
Following on from the release of our Nature Recovery Ambition Statement, we share an overview of Foresight’s progress on nature positive actions from our forestry team to our solar funds.
Set against the backdrop of the UN Biodiversity Conferences’ (COP15) targets and The Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)’s recently published recommendations, Foresight continues to utilise its assets, to accelerate nature recovery.
Long Duration Battery Storage Systems
Since the implementation of the Electricity Market Reform (“EMR”) in the UK in 2013, the take-up of renewable generation increased to 38% in 2021 from 13% the year the policy was implemented. With more nations seeking to deliver on their own decarbonisation goals, the reliance on solar and wind production will only rise. The intermittent nature of renewables, however, needs to be balanced with storage solutions if grid operators are to successfully manage supply and demand requirements.
It was the opportunity to capitalise on the nascent battery storage market that led Shareholders to vote overwhelmingly in favour of updating the Company’s investment policy in 2020 to include BSS projects.
Foresight Group PRI Scores Published
We are pleased to announce the release of our official PRI scores across the business.
The Principles for Responsible Investment (“PRI”) is the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment, and works to achieve a sustainable global financial system by encouraging the adoption of six aspirational Principles.
As a signatory to the PRI since 2013, Foresight is required to submit an annual assessment that grades the business’ performance. As a result, we are thrilled to announce that Foresight Group has been awarded 5 out of 5 star ratings.
